Vous venez présenter en première mondiale  votre film " DADDY " à Montréal, pouvez-vous nous en faire un bref résumé?

DADDY est une histoire qui m'est venu, il y a environ 5 ans. Il était à l'origine une pièce que j'ai  remis par écrit par mon co-auteur, Dan Via, qui avait une production initiale très réussie à New York. Et 5 ans plus tard, et de hauts et des bas et des balles courbes et des larmes et beaucoup de nuits blanches, il a évolué vers mon premier film long métrage. C'est une histoire intrigante sur l'amitié, la famille, vieillit, et le coût élevé des choses non-dit qui a une tournure des événement très inattendue.

Est un récit autobiographique?

Pas du tout. Mais c'est une histoire que je suis tombé en amour au moment que je l'ai lu il y a 5 ans. C'est un tel voyage si unique et mur. Avec un grand sens de l'humour. Et une fin qui résonne vraiment avec moi, personnellement.

 Un mot sur l'équipe de l'acteur autour de vous?

Je suis tellement fier de mon équipe. Avec Dan et moi-même, cela inclut Jamie Cepero de "Smash" et Tamlyn Tomita que j'ai regardé et admiré la majeure partie de ma vie et travaillé il ya quelques années sur un autre film. Richard Riehle de «Demoiselles d'honneur» et presque tous les films jamais fait - et un autre acteur que j'ai regardé la plupart de ma vie avec qui j'ai travaillé  dans BearCity 2. Jay Jackson de «Parcs et Rec" est super dans ce film, et Mackenzie Astin.. Et Mia Matthews de la Nickelodeon Montrer Every Witch Way. Plus, encore une fois, j'ai l'incroyable Leslie Easterbrook . Une autre actrice,  que j'ai regardé la plupart de ma vie -. jouant une mère.  Ce qu'elle fit dans le premier court-métrage que je dirigeais donc je suis content de retravailler de nouveau dans mon premier long métrage avec son jeu ma mère, une fois de plus c'était signifiant pour moi. Je suis arrivé à avoir un peu de mes amis très talentueux et chers, y compris Scott Henry ("Mall Cop 2") et Patrick Richwood ("Pretty Woman ") apparaissent dans le film. Et le récipiendaire d'un Tony Award, Winner John Rubinstein a un caméo très émouvant. Je me sens si béni d'avoir pu réunir un tel ensemble si fort. J'estime vraiment que chaque personne dans l'histoire brille et donne une réalité fondées au film.

Pourriez-vous nous raconter une anecdote du tournage?

Oh mec. Le tournage était une bête. Nous l'avons tourné en moins de deux semaines à Los Angeles. Et après 12 jours de tournage principal, deux scènes sont restés non filmé. Une des scènes encore-à-être-filmées était situé à un bar gay par excellence, donc je choisis de guérilla tirer la fête de fin de la journée après la photographie principale conclus. Et puis, le lendemain matin, mon directeur de la photographie, Svetlana Cvetko - à qui je dois tant de respect et d'admiration pour - et j'ai pris l'avion pour Pittsburgh et la guérilla ont tiré tous les extérieurs de Pittsburgh au cours des 48 heures. c'était un fou non-stop de trois semaines. Ensuite, la scène a été filmée en restant à Los Angeles plus d'un mois plus tard.

 

Serez-vous présent à les projections 30 & 31 août au Festival des Films du Monde de Montréal ?

Oui. Je participerai aux deux projections et je suppose que nous allons faire un Q & R après. Je serai à Montréal pour la majorité de la fête. J'adore le circuit des festivals du film et la possibilité de voir un tel éventail de films et de rencontrer des cinéastes de partout dans le monde.

En quelques mots, donner rendez-vous pour la présentation  de «DADDY» au Festival ?

Eh bien, Le Festival des Films des Films du Monde de Montréal est le seul festival compétitif en Amérique du Nord accrédité par la Fédération internationale des associations de producteurs de films. Donc, je suis tellement heureux et excité par ce festival d'être là où il est " DADDY " est projeté en première mondiale. Et que ce soit la première audience qui voit mon film. C'est très inattendu. Et ça me met un grand sourire sur mon visage.

You just show premiered in Montreal, your film "Daddy" ... Can we make a brief summary? 

DADDY is a story that came to me about 5 years ago. It was originally a play that I was cast in written by my co-star Dan Via, which had a very successful initial production in New York City. And 5 years later, and many ups and downs and curve balls and tears and sleepless nights, it has evolved into my directorial debut feature film. It’s an intriguing story about friendship, family, getting older, and the high cost of things left unsaid which has a very unexpected turn of events.

Is a story autobiographical?

Not at all. But it’s a story that I fell in love with the moment I first read it 5 years ago. It’s such a unique and mature journey. With a great sense of humor to it. And an ending that really resonates with me, personally.

A word on the actor team around you? 

I am so proud of my cast. Along with Dan and myself, it includes Jamie Cepero from “Smash” and Tamlyn Tomita who I’ve watched and admired most of my life and worked with a few years ago on another film. Richard Riehle from “Bridesmaids" and almost every movie ever made -  and another actor I’ve watched most of my life who I also worked with in BearCity 2. Jay Jackson from “Parks and Rec” is great in it. And Mackenzie Astin. And Mia Matthews from the Nickelodeon show Every Witch Way. Plus, once again I have the amazing Leslie Easterbrook - another actress I have watched most of my life - playing my mom. Which she did in the first short film I directed so to work with her again on my first feature film with her playing my mom once again meant so much to me. I got to have a few of my very talented and dear friends including Scott Henry(“Mall Cop 2”) and Patrick Richwood (“Pretty Woman”) appear in the film. And Tony Award Winner John Rubinstein has a really moving cameo.

 

I feel so blessed to have been able to assemble such a strong ensemble. I truly feel every person in the story shines and gives a grounded reality to the film.

Could tell us a story of the filming?

Oh boy. Filming was a beast. We shot it in less than two weeks in Los Angeles. And after 12 days of principal photography, two scenes remained un-filmed. One of the yet-to-be-filmed scenes was located at an archetypal gay bar, so I chose to guerrilla shoot the wrap party the day after principal photography concluded. And then the next morning Dan, my director of photography, Svetlana Cvetko - whom I have such respect and admiration for - and I flew to Pittsburgh and guerrilla shot all the Pittsburgh exteriors over the course of 48 hours. It was a crazy non stop three weeks. Then the remaining scene was filmed in Los Angeles over a month later.

 

Will you be present at the projections 30 and 31 August in the World Film Festival of Montreal? 

Yes. I’ll be attending both screenings and assume we’ll be doing a Q&A afterwards. I will be in Montreal for the majority of the festival. I love the film festival circuit and the opportunity to see such a diverse range of films and meet film makers from all around the world.

In a few words, give appointments to the Montreal presentation of "DADDY" at the Festival? 

Well, The Montreal World Film Festival is the only competitive festival in North America accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers Association. So I’m so happy and excited for this festival to be where DADDY receives it’s world premier. And for it to be the very first audience that sees my film. It’s very unexpected. And puts a big smile on my face.
